Q. How does the Mystic Tan deliver the perfect tan?
A. The Mystic Tan booth utilizes a spray on process designed to deliver a customized sunless tanning application to each individual based on their body size, skin type and desired color; three tanning level options are available to produce optimal results. Inside the Mystic Tan room the tanner disrobes and enters the booth (see the bottom of this page for the demonstration video). With the push of a button, the session begins with a fine mist of sunless tanning solution being sprayed through the patented MagneTan nozzles. The MagneTan technology ensures uniform coverage over the entire body; a smooth, natural looking tan in less than 60 seconds!
Q. What is in the Mystic Tan and the Airbrush spray tanning solution?
The solutions we use, and all sunless products, have one specific ingredient in common – dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is a simple molecule that has been used in cosmetics for years and when applied to the skin, reacts with proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to produce a golden brown color. Otherwise, along with DHA, top ingredients are beneficial extracts, moisturizing ingredients and nourishing vitamins. For an exact list, please ask an associate.
Q. Can I go swimming after a spray tan?
A. You should not swim, sweat or shower for a minimum of 4 hours after using the Mystic Tan booth or getting an airbrush spray tan. Also, even after the initial wait time, swimming and vigorous exercise resulting in profuse sweating can shorten the life of a sunless tan.
Q. How long after a Mystic Tan tanning session before I can put my clothes back on?
A. Once you have towel dried there is little chance of the bronzer or DHA getting on your clothes so you can dress and go on about your day. If some sort of strenuous activity causes perspiration, you may see some transfer to clothing, but since the bronzer is completely water-soluble it will wash out.
Q. Should I get my manicure/pedicure before or after my spray tan?
A. Always try to plan to have a manicure or pedicure before your Mystic session or airbrush spray tan. Be sure to remove any lotions or oils used during the pedicure before the session.
Q. How long does a sunless tan last?
A. Sunless tans – Mystic or airbrush – last an average of 4-6 days, the time it takes for the skin to naturally exfoliate. The following tips will help you get more time out of a sunless tan: (1) NEVER let your skin get dry and flaky - moisturize every morning and after every shower. (2) Use a a salon-quality tan-extending moisturizer. (3) Use a shower gel - bar soap tends to dry skin out. (4) Use a sunless spray, lotion or mousse for touch ups.
Q. Is there anything special I should do to care for my sunless tan?
A. Start, before you even do your sunless tan, by using a salon quality, fine-grain exfoliator to remove all dry skin so you are spraying fresh, new skin. After your sunless session, ask an associate about tan-extending moisturizers made especially for that or sunless products for touch-ups between sessions.
Q. If have color from a sunless tan, can I also tan in tanning beds and in the sun?
A. Yes, there is nothing in the sunless tanning solution that would prevent you from tanning in tanning beds or the sun. Remember however, that a sunless tan does not give you any protection from UV rays so don’t forget your sunscreen outdoors.
Q. Because of my fair skin, I have never been able to tan before. Will the Mystic Tan tanning booth or airbrush give me a tan?
A. Yes. The Mystic Tan tanning booth was designed especially for individuals who can’t or don’t want to tan conventionally. Level 1 is probably going to be your best bet.
Q. I'm pressed for time...is there anything else I can do?
